Myrtue’s patient population that is seeking women’s health services has continued to rise over the past several years. In August 2024, Jennifer Bruck, ARNP, began partnering with Myrtue’s OB/GYN, Dr. Kelly Anderson, providing obstetric and gynecological services in our Surgery + Outpatient Specialty Clinic. Through this partnership, we can continue to ensure that every woman who walks through our doors receives the compassionate and personalized care she deserves.
Patients are able to start OB visits with Dr. Kelly Anderson as early as five to six weeks, or when they have a positive pregnancy test. Once the pregnancy has been confirmed, patients will begin the following timetable unless otherwise instructed by Dr. Anderson.
Myrtue Medical's Birthing Center provides comprehensive care for both mother and baby during their stay with us. Dr. Anderson will conduct daily check-ins with the patient to ensure that their body is healing correctly after giving birth. In addition to this, one of Myrtue's trusted newborn physicians - selected by the parents if requested - will also perform daily check-ins on the newborn baby. This ensures that both mother and baby are receiving the necessary care and attention to recover and thrive.
Once the patient is discharged from the Birthing Center, they will continue to receive care from Dr. Anderson. The patient will be scheduled for follow-up appointments at three and six weeks postpartum to make sure that their body is continuing to heal properly. After these appointments, the patient will be released to their primary care physician for ongoing care.
At the Birthing Center, patients can rest easy knowing that they will receive top-notch care from experienced physicians and staff. The facility is designed to provide a comfortable and safe environment for both mother and baby, with a focus on ensuring that they receive the support they need to recover and thrive.
*This is your story, and you have the option to choose how your journey unfolds. While all aspects of your pregnancy, labor, and delivery are optional, some aspects may be more specifically optional, indicated by a * in the schedule above. If you have any additional changes you would like to make to your care, please don't hesitate to speak to your maternity physician.
Kelly Anderson, DO, Myrtue's board certified (FACOOG) OB/GYN, joined Myrtue's team in September of 2020, and sees Obstetrics and Gynecological patients in our Surgery + Specialty Clinic. She is dedicated to being a lifelong partner of women’s health needs and is an amazing asset to the Myrtue Medical Center team.
She performs surgeries two days per week and delivers babies in our Birthing Center. "I really enjoy the emotions involved in being an obstetrician. Delivering babies creates an atmosphere of excitement and anticipation. It's fun to be there, in the moment, as families experience the joy of welcoming a new member to their family," stated Dr. Anderson.
Dr. Anderson is extensively trained in women's health and prevention including annual exams, family planning, breast health, and treatments for menopause. "I want my patients to feel comfortable talking to me about any chronic, troublesome symptoms or potentially embarrassing topics," she exclaims. "I am passionate about educating my patients on healthy lifestyles and promoting positive, life-long healthy changes. It is important for my patients to know I am here for a lifetime of care - not just the babies."
Myrtue Medical Center, in partnership with Audubon County Memorial Hospital (ACMH), offers expectant moms in the ACMH service area the combined care of Myrtue’s pregnancy and birthing services with follow-up care from Audubon’s family medical providers. ACMH also offers blood tests as part of routine care during pregnancy.
Elizabeth "Betsy" Smith and her husband welcomed their daughter, Opal, in April through the MMC Birthing Center and ACMH partnership.
“My pregnancy and birthing experience was made all the more memorable thanks to my prenatal and labor care with with Dr. Anderson and her nurse Amber and the smooth transition to well-baby visits with my primary care physician, Dr. Vampola and nurse Caylee with ACMH,” said Betsy. “I was able to complete all the necessary labs and radiology examinations at ACMH and was ready to head to Harlan for the birth of our daughter. My cesarean section at Myrtue went smoothly with Dr. Anderson performing the birth tremendously, and anesthetist helped so much to block the pain with my recovery. My one-on-one care during my stay were attentive and helpful, special shout-out to my nurses Megan and Catie!”
Before Betsy left the Birthing Center, she had her first well-child visit scheduled with ACMH primary care physician, Dr. Vampola. “After the smooth transition of care from the Birthing Center to ACMH, Dr. Vampola and Caylee took wonderful care of my little girl during all of her well-child visits. Whenever that self-doubt rears its head, Dr. Vampola does an awesome job listening to my concerns and providing guidance.”
Lastly, Betsy stated, “I have had such an amazing experience with this partnership between Harlan and Audubon. I would not change a thing with my birthing experience! I do highly recommend anyone to use this partnership in their own journey to becoming parents.”
