Therapy Services

Because mental health includes our thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and relationships, mental health therapists help clients grow and heal in these areas. Our team of therapists works with individuals, couples, and families on a wide range of challenges, such as depression and anxiety, behavioral issues, family concerns, and major life stressors.

You can feel confident that your therapist is highly trained to serve you with research-supported tools, including approaches such as:

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
  • Gottman Couples Therapy
  • Adlerian Play and Sand Tray Therapy
  • Somatic Therapies, including Trauma-Responsive Yoga and Somatic Experiencing
  • Trauma-Focus Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)

Therapy services begin with an initial intake assessment where you and your therapist will explore your present concerns as well as history across life domains. Your therapist will use this information to determine a diagnosis and to work with you on goals for the therapy process, such as developing coping skills, improving mood and life engagement, strengthening relationships, or healing past trauma.

Therapy is typically provided by licensed social workers, mental health counselors, or marriage and family therapists. Therapists hold a master’s degree and complete additional training in specific interventions. Our therapists work closely with medication management and community support providers, as well as any other supports that you feel are appropriate, such as school staff or faith leaders.

Movement Therapy for Adults

Behavioral Health offers movement therapy groups to strengthen your mind-body connection for healing and wholeness.

Nervous System Pic

  • Begin with an individual session to prepare for group
  • Small closed groups for privacy
  • Dress for comfort
  • Mats available or you can bring your own

Movement Therapy helps to mend and transform your nervous system. In this therapy group, you will learn the protective patterns of your nervous system, how to track the felt sensations throughout your body, and how to reprogram old stuck patterns. These stuck patterns can lead to physical illness, anger, irritability, rapidly fluctuating moods, aggression, and avoidance. In addition to learning the science of the nervous system, you will learn movement and breath techniques that aid in the release of the stuck patterns and associated trauma while healing the body and mind.

  • Groups specializing in regulating stress and emotions, supporting addiction recovery, and addressing body image and disordered eating

  • Groups run for 8 weeks with take-home resources and support for parents
  • Scholarships are available to help with out of pocket costs, courtesy of a generous grant from the Delta Dental of Iowa Foundation

Research shows body-based strategies are essential for managing anger and anxiety, behavior challenges, and stressful experiences. Movement Therapy for Kids uses a variety of evidenced-based techniques to teach kids how to feel safe, calm, and balanced. Kids learn movement and breathing practices that help release stuck stress patterns and build a healthy body and mind.
