Laboratory Services
Myrtue Medical Center laboratory is a CLIA-certified laboratory accredited
by the State of Iowa. Our team of professional technologists and technicians
are trained individuals who are qualified in laboratory testing and work
hand-in-hand with our skilled phlebotomists and lab assistants. We are
on duty around-the-clock to collect blood and conduct tests that are requested
on an emergency basis. Our services include general chemistry, immunology,
serology, hematology, coagulation and blood bank. In addition, the laboratory
features microbiology, toxicology and therapeutic drug level monitoring.
Our laboratory performs approximately 340,000 laboratory tests each year.
Most of our testing is done in-house; however, some testing must be sent
to our reference lab, Physician’s Laboratory, in Omaha, Nebraska.
The practice of modern medicine would be impossible without the tests performed
by the clinical laboratory. Laboratory test results are among the most
important and helpful tools used in medicine today. In fact, 60-80% of
health care decisions affecting diagnosis and treatment of disease are
determined on laboratory results. Therefore, the foremost goal of Myrtue
Medical Center’s laboratory is to provide accurate and reliable
test results to our health care providers for the diagnosis and treatment
of disease. Another important goal of our laboratory is to promote customer
service to our community by being a certified drug and alcohol collection
facility, a paternity testing collection site, and offering health fairs
in the spring and fall.
