Myrtue’s Diabetes Self-Management Education program is Certified by the American Diabetes Association and the State of Iowa.
Living with diabetes or preventing diabetes, and its potential long term complications, can be challenging, but Myrtue Medical Center is here to help you! We work with your primary care provider to meet your individual education needs. We offer a comprehensive program in which you will learn everything you need to know about diabetes, pre-diabetes, or gestational diabetes. A free diabetes support group is also available.

Jan is a registered nurse and a certified diabetes educator and currently
serves as the diabetes program coordinator and one of our Health Coaches
in our Harlan Rural Health Clinic. Jan has a broad base of knowledge in
various disease processes specializing in diabetes and provides individual
consultation to patients and groups as indicated.

Julie is a registered and licensed dietitian and will help you learn to
manage your diabetes by teaching you how your food choices affect your
blood sugar and can help lessen the risk for long term complications related
to high blood sugars. Julie provides outpatient nutrition therapy for
a variety of disease diagnoses with related nutrition needs and serves
the nutrition needs of MMC’s inpatients as well as overseeing day
to day operations of MMC’s Dietary Department.
There is a fee for our certified diabetes services, but it is generally covered by Medicare, Medicaid, and most private insurances. Feel free to contact your insurance provider regarding coverage, or speak to one of our Patient Financial Advocates at 712.340.1270.
