Dr. Bernal grew up in Yonkers, New York. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign. Following his medical studies at the University of Illinois College of Medicine, he finished his Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, where he also completed his Gastroenterology Fellowship. Dr. Bernal has authored numerous abstracts and participated in various presentations for the American Gastroenterology National Fellows Forum and the American College of Physicians, Nebraska Chapter. Since 1998, Dr. Bernal and his wife, who is also a physician, have resided in Omaha and have three children.
