Mental Health Action Day

Myrtue Behavioral Health and NAMI Southwest Iowa are hosting a Mental Health Action Day on May 16, during Mental Health Awareness Month! This event will provide multiple opportunities to build understanding and take action to support mental health. We hope you can participate in some or all of the aspects of the day!

Mental Illness Simulations

  • When: May 16, 1-4 PM. You can come any time during this window and stay as long as you like.
  • Where: Petersen Family Wellness Center, 1213 Chatburn Ave. in Harlan
  • What: four unique rooms, each focused on a simulation of a different mental health condition: anxiety, depression, ADHD, and addiction. Community members can visit one or multiple rooms. Each room simulation will take about 5 minutes, followed by a time of debriefing.
  • Who: anyone! All are welcome!

Mental Health Resource Fair

  • When: May 16, 1-4 PM. You can come any time during this window and stay as long as you like.
  • Where: Petersen Family Wellness Center, 1213 Chatburn Ave. in Harlan
  • What: an open house resource fair to learn more about key mental health resources in our community. Learn how to support yourself and others.
  • Who: anyone! All are welcome!

Mental Health Action Community Walk

  • When: May 16, 5:30-7 PM
  • Where: Pioneer Park at the Pine Street Shelter in Harlan
  • What: a community gathering to celebrate our mental health warriors! We will have a short program at 6 PM featuring guest speaking Chris Adcock. Throughout the event, walkers can visits different stations along the path to take action for mental health. Community members can also create signs in honor or in memory of a mental health warrior to decorate the walking path.
