(Harlan) – Myrtue Medical Center has received notice from General Surgeon, Dr. LeRoy Hodges, MD, of his intent to resign from the Hospital, effective in May this year, citing his personal reasons of wanting to be closer to family.
Dr. Hodges joined Myrtue Medical Center in July 2022, and sees patients in the Outpatient Surgery & Specialty Clinic, and he performs a broad scope of general surgeries and procedures at Myrtue’s Surgery Center. Prior to coming to Myrtue, Dr. Hodges practiced general surgery in Minnesota, Georgia and Alabama; his plans are to return south.
“The best interest of the patient is my guiding principle, and family will always be a guide in my personal and professional journey,” said Dr. Hodges. “My wife, daughter and I have been kindly embraced by the hospital, school and the community, and this decision was made with much thought and consideration for the people I work with and the patients I’ve had the pleasure of meeting and serving,” he said.
“We appreciate Dr. Hodges’ contributions to our patients and the Health System and wish him and his family all the best,” said Barry Jacobsen, Myrtue Medical Center CEO.
Dr. Hodges will continue to be available and see patients through mid-May.
Myrtue Medical Center and the Shelby County Medical Corporation will immediately begin recruitment of a general surgeon.
