Myrtue Medical Center Named a 5-Star Medical Center

Myrtue Medical Center has received a prestigious 5-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Star ratings are assigned annually to hospitals across the country based on 46 hospital quality measures evaluated by CMS, which are divided into five categories: safety of care, mortality, patient experience, readmission rates, and timely and effective care. This distinction places Myrtue among an elite group, being one of only seven hospitals in Iowa to receive an overall 5-star rating this past year. Additionally, Myrtue received a 5-star rating for its patient survey, making it one of only three hospitals in the state to achieve top marks in both overall performance and patient experience.

The overall rating reflects Myrtue Medical Center's excellence in various areas of quality care, including the effective treatment of heart attacks and pneumonia, low readmission rates, and a strong emphasis on safety. The patient survey rating measures the experiences of discharged patients, focusing on how well nurses and doctors communicated the responsiveness of hospital staff and the cleanliness and quietness of the hospital environment. Myrtue's positive patient experience in these areas emphasizes its priority to patient-centered care.

"This rating is a testament to the high standards of care and dedication demonstrated by the hospital's staff," said Barry Jacobsen, Myrtue Medical Center’s CEO. “Moving forward, Myrtue Medical Center remains committed to building on this foundation of excellence, continuously enhancing its services to meet the future health needs of our community.”
