Myrtue Medical Center is not your “typical” rural hospital. Our integrated health care facility incorporates the Harlan, Avoca, Shelby, Elk Horn and Earling medical clinics as well as behavioral health, community health and most recently the Petersen Family Wellness Center and Lewis Aquatic Complex.
The Wellness Center is receiving a phenomenal response from the community and surrounding area. Health is all about improving our well-being and there is no better place than the Wellness Center to do just that.
The Board of Trustees has approved an expansion and renovation plan which will carry over at least eighteen months and enhance many of the services we currently offer plus allow us to add services we feel are needed in this community and the surrounding
area. The plan includes relocating surgery, outpatient and lab as well as expanding radiology and updating the birthing center.
Surgery is currently located in the oldest part of the building and there is no way to renovate without ceasing operation of this critical service area. Plus, the ceiling height and structural columns limited our ability to construct modern surgical suites.
Our current lab does not have enough space to handle the volume of lab work to meet the growing needs of our patients and surgical offerings. We will be moving the majority of the laboratory to the lower level of the clinic which will give them elevator access, greater security and ample room for expansion. Patient access for standard procedures such as blood draws will remain on the main floor in private patient blood draw rooms. Our goal is to provide the best care possible for you, our patients.
Myrtue’s medical staff includes board-certified medical providers and extenders with specialties in family practice, internal medicine, pediatrics, general surgery and women’s health issues.
