Seasonal Vaccine/H1N1 Clinic Held in Harlan

A late shipment of seasonal flu shots was received at the Shelby County Public Health office.  A seasonal vaccine clinic/H1N1 vaccination clinic was held on Monday, December 28th to distribute these to the general public.  Over 650 vaccinations were given!  More flu clinics are planned for January 2010.  Here is the breakdown of immunizations given:

H1N1:
Adult shots - 473
Adult mists - 19
Child shots - 18
Child mists - 31
Baby shots - 12
Baby mists - 4
Total - 557

Seasonal:
Adult shots - 86
Child VFC shots - 6
Baby VFC shots - 2
Total - 94

Pneumonia:
Adult - 1

Myrtue Medical Center now has several confirmed cases of H1N1 influenza in the community. The vast majority of all H1N1 cases have caused mild illness that lasts a few days; most people have a complete recovery.  Shelby County Public Health receives H1N1 vaccine on an ongoing basis from the Iowa Department of Public Health and will vaccinate persons that are at highest risk for H1N1 complications.  Click on the following links for answers to some common questions about the illness and the vaccine.  Contact Myrtue Medical Center's Shelby County Public Health Department at 712.755.4422 for more information.
