Registered Nurse

Medical/Surgical Department

Two full-time positions (each 36 hours per week).  Works 7:00 pm to 7:00 am and every third weekend.  Utilizes the nursing process to provide and direct quality patient care in various settings:  Med-Sug, Swing Bed, OB, SCU, ER, Outpatient, and Perioperative.  Directs and provides patient/family teaching.  Provides leadership when working with health team members in maintaining standards for professional nursing practice in the clinical setting.  Completes admission assessments and documentation.  Initiates and individualizes care plans on admission.  Keeps practitioner/charge nurse informed of change in patient condition.  Must be a graduate from an approved Professional Nursing program.  Must be a Registered Nurse currently licensed in the State of Iowa.  Certification in Basic Life Support is required within 3 months of date of hire.  Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification is required within 12 months of date of hire.

Immunization Nurse

Harlan Rural Health Clinic

Full-time position (36 hours per week).  Works four days per week (Monday through Thursday) 8:00 am to 5:30 pm.  Provides an adjunct nursing function to completion of patient care duties on the nursing floor.  Evaluates immunization status, provision of immunizations, completion of pre-operative testing, physicals, etc, assists in the efficient and accurate provision of patient services.  Delivers patient care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Assists in the patient teaching activities and maintains the standards of a professional nurse.  Cross-trains for triage nurse.  Rotates in Saturday charge position/evening rotation.  One year previous experience in clinical position preferred.  Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing program possessing a current Iowa Nursing license.

Phone Nurse

Harlan Rural Health Clinic

Full-time position (36 hours per week).  Works 8:00 am to 5:30 pm Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.  Prioritizes patient appointments for medical practitioner’s schedule.  Utilizes critical judgment to coordinate with practitioner and clinical staff members for patient access.  Applies knowledge of illnesses, injuries, and diseases, using available resources in the assessment process.  Assesses patient’s problem on the phone, triages calls, discusses with medical practitioner/nursing staff, and returns calls.  One year previous experience in a clinical position preferred.  Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing program possessing a current Iowa Nursing license.  Must either be certified in CPR or obtain certification during the first three months of employment.

CMA/Office Assistant

Occupational Health Outreach Department

Part-time position (24 hours per week).  Works 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.  Provides office support by performing clerical and billing duties as well as performing various laboratory duties and patient care activities. Checks drug screening supplies and orders the necessary Chain of Custody forms and kits needed for drug screens and documents when completed.  Keeps companies informed of injured employees’ progress and compliance by faxing the work injury report in a timely manner.  Assists the Occupational Health Nurse in administering the Occupational Health program and services.  Maintains precise health records and other required documentation, forms, etc.  Performs venipunctures for blood analysis screenings.  Administers intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intradermal injections according to medical provider’s orders. Assures correct specimen collection and prepares specimens for testing or referral lab.  Secretarial experience of at least one year preferred.  Computer experience of at least one year is also preferred.  Must be a graduate of medical assistant training with certification.  Must either be certified in CPR or obtain certification during the first three months of employment.  Must possess valid Iowa driver’s license and maintain auto liability insurance.

ER Tech

Emergency Department

2 on-call positions.  Works 11:00 pm to 7:00 am every other Friday and Saturday night shift.  Assists the professional nursing staff and ED medical practitioners in providing care to patients in the Emergency Department.  Is responsible for performing clerical and receptionist duties and maintaining the physical environment for the area.  Performs EKGs.  Assists with direct patient care including taking vitals, recording data, relaying pertinent information, and assisting with patient care. Completion of approved 75-hour Nursing Assistant course and/or successful completion of Nursing Assistant certification written and skills tests or completion of one year of an approved practical nurse program or professional nurse program required.

Health Coach

Harlan Rural Health Clinic

Full-time position (36 hours per week).  Works Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:30 pm.  Is of prime importance in helping the medical provider respond successfully to the increasing demands for his/her services.  Is the essential link between the medical provider and his/her patients, professional associates, and equipment and medical suppliers.  Delivers patient care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.  Assists in the patient teaching activities and maintains the standards of a professional nurse.  Performs various laboratory and radiologic procedures and is responsible for the documentation of the results of these.  Must have the ability to apply critical thinking skills and make sound judgments both while performing daily responsibilities and throughout the patient’s continuum of care.  Complete health risk assessments as a foundation for developing individualized care plans and outcomes goals for patients and their families.  Act as the primary contact point, advocate, and source of information for patients and the community partners who help treat them.  Research, find, and link patients to resources, services, and support mechanisms for their care plans and self-care management needs.  Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing program possessing a current Iowa nursing license.  Must either be certified in CPR or obtain certification during the first three months of employment.

CMA or LPN

Outpatient Specialty Clinic

Part-time position (20 hours per week).  Works various days Monday through Friday 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.  Monday-Urology and/or Rheumatology Clinics; Tuesday-ENT Clinic; Wednesday-Allergy and/or Neuro-Surgery Clinics; Other clinics as needed.  Is of prime importance in helping the physician respond successfully to the increasing demands for his/her services.  Is the essential link between the physician and his/her patients and professional associates.  Delivers patient care though the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.  Assists in the patient teaching activities and maintains the standards of care.  Obtains patient histories, medication, and documents in chart.  Communicates effectively with scheduling clerks and specialty physicians.  Must be a graduate from an approved school of nursing program possessing a current Iowa nursing license or be a graduate of medical assistant training – possessing certification.  Must be certified in CPR or obtain certification during the first three months of employment.

ER Tech

On-call position.  Works 11:00 am to 11:00 pm Friday, Saturday, and Sunday every third weekend.  Assists the professional nursing staff and ED medical practitioners in providing care to patients in the Emergency Department.  Is responsible for performing clerical and receptionist duties and maintaining the physical environment for the area. Environmental Services Staff

Environmental Services Department

Part-time position (20-24 hours per week).  Works Monday through Friday 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.  Works every fifth weekend 5:30 am to 2:00 pm.  Rotates weekends and holidays.  Assumes responsibility for overall cleaning of patient rooms, work areas and public areas according to standards of the hospital.  May be required to sort and/or transport laundry.  Successful completion of the work on a regular basis would result in a clean, safe, and attractive environment which is conducive to the recovery of ill patients and contributes positively to staff morale and the public relations of the hospital.  Training and experience not required.  Hospital will do on-the-job training.  Must know how to use common house cleaning devices to keep areas clean.  Must know how to care for equipment, how to measure cleaning solutions, and be alert to hazards.  Completion of high school or equivalent preferred.

Certified Nurses Assistant (CNA)

Medical/Surgical Department

Full-time position (40 hours per week).  Works various days Sunday through Saturday 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm.  Works every other weekend.  Assists the professional nursing staff in providing quality patient care.  Is responsible for performing a variety of patient care activities including, but not limited to:  ADLs, assessments, documentation, etc and related health care functions under the direct supervision of an RN or LPN.  Completion of an approved 75-hour Nursing Assistant course and/or successful completion of Nursing Assistant certification written and skills tests or completion of one year of an approved practical nursing program or professional nurse program required.
