On-Call Position 12 hours/week. 7:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m. Utilizes the nursing process to provide and direct quality patient care to OB patients and newborns. He/she directs and provides patient/family teaching. The RN provides leadership when working with health team members in maintaining standards for professional nursing practice in the clinical setting. Provide intense nursing care to laboring women and be able to access labor dystocia, non-reassuring fetal heart rate patterns or any arising OB related emergencies. Provide education, advice and support to laboring women and support person or people through different therapies, different pain management plans, and individual birth plans. Communicate clearly and timely to OB’s physician of progress of labor or any medical concerns, NB’s physician of respiratory difficulty, feeding issues or any dismissal obstacles. Complete assessments on obstetric patients and newborns and recognize any abnormal findings, utilize nursing interventions, communicate with physicians accurately and thoroughly. Facilitate the bonding of the family unit. Current Iowa license. Graduate from an approved professional Nursing Program. Certification in Basic Life Support is required within 3 months of date of hire. Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification is required within 12 months of date of hire. Takes responsibility for pursuit of continuing education.
